Half Day Etna Sunset Excursion
Etna at Sunset is an afternoon tour from Catania, suitable for all ages and offering a different perspective of the volcano in the evening light.
We depart in the early afternoon from Catania in a comfortable minivan. The first stop is a local agriturismo, where you will taste traditional Sicilian products. After the tasting, we continue to the Silvestri Craters area for an easy one-hour walk at 2000 metres above sea level.
The route goes through a protected area within the Etna Park, known for its lava fields and volcanic terrain. As the sun begins to set, the changing light reveals a different side of Etna, highlighting its geological features and landscape.
Itinerary
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Meeting in Catania
We’ll meet in Catania to begin the afternoon tour to Mount Etna.
Drive towards Etna
We’ll travel by comfortable air-conditioned minivan, passing scenic Sicilian landscapes and villages located at the foot of the volcano.
Tasting of local specialties at a farm with Etna view
Our first stop is a local agriturismo with a view of Etna. Here you’ll taste regional products such as olive oil, honey, and wine.
Easy hike and geological insights
Next, we’ll take an easy one-hour walk at 2000 metres above sea level, exploring the well-known Silvestri Craters. The route passes through old lava fields, extinct volcanic cones, and areas with endemic vegetation. The guide will explain Etna’s volcanic activity, scientific monitoring, the lives of local residents, and the geological processes that have shaped the area.

After the walk we’ll stop at a panoramic viewpoint to observe and photograph the changing colours of the sky and the volcano at sunset.
Return to Catania
We’ll return to Catania around 20:00–20:30, concluding the tour.
